This potato poori was born in a whim. The other day as I was gathering the ingredients to make potato phulka, suddenly changed my mind, tweaked the recipe and made these pooris. This potato poori is a healthy and tasty food for kids/toddlers,poori being their all time favorite and when it comes packed with another favorite veggie-potato,they don't have a reason to deny. I did not say a word about these and served them, but the difference in taste and flavor was keenly noted by my husband and certified tasty :).These piping hot pooris were lovingly devoured with tamatar ka salan, blissful dinner indeed :). I highly recommend you try these for your kids, they are gonna love it :)
Potato poori recipe
Star ingredients: Potato
Time:40 minutes
Serves:3
I did not take stepwise pics for this as the mobile I use for step wise pics was not working.Instead I have added step wise pics from phulks,as the kneading is quite the same here too.
Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup rava/sooji/cream of wheat
1 large or 2 medium sized potatoes
3 teaspoons oil
1/4 water
Salt
Oil for deep frying
Method:
1.Boil and peel the potatoes.Mash them very well when they are still hot. There should not be any lumps left.
2.Take wheat flour and rava in a mixing bowl.Add the mashed potato,3 teaspoons oil and salt.Mix well with your fingers.Start kneading the dough without any water first, potato will leave out moisture.
3.Now add 1/4 cup water and knead to a stiff dough.Heat oil for deep frying.
4.Divide the dough into 12-14 lemon sized balls and roll out thin circles.
5.Deep fry 2-3 pooris at a time,till golden from both sides,on a medium flame.
6.Serve hot with any spicy gravy/sabzi.It is better to avoid potato sabzi/masala here as poori already contains potato.
Notes:
1.Be sure to mash the potatoes very well.If there are any lumps,it may cause blistering while deep frying.
2.Do not add more than 1/4 cup of water, potatoes contain the needed moisture already.
3.Do not let the dough rest after kneading, resting the dough is needed only for chapathi.
4.Rava will make the pooris crispy.
