Pleasure to Rest, Pleasure to Meet with Some Other Works…

By Pmeurice
After couple of hectic weeks, I took a couple of days off. Days off work, and but also days off the easel. Sometimes, good to rest.
The weather was really enchanting in the North of France and in Paris : enjoying walking along the Seine, on the banks, ending up in the Musée d'Orsay. A very nice show on display, gathering some works from Van Gogh, and writings from Artaud - The latter being a French artist and writer who was facing insanity and illness issues, and ended up in different asylums.  After a show of Van Gogh's work in 1947, impressed, he wrote an essay on the Painter : interesting to see how this tortuous mind can almost identify with the expression that can be found in Van Gogh's paintings.
On my side, I was delighted to find a rare gathering of works that can hardly be seen in one single place: self portraits, still lives, and - by far the theme I prefer with Van Gogh - the landscapes. First time to see 'champs de blé près d'Auvers', ' Les Chaumes à Cordeville', and other pieces from his stay close to Arles.
In the North, I also did a jump to a Pastel Exhibition in Saint Leonard. Pastel d'Opale association organized the first international festival dedicated to this medium. I was surprised to see this show quite busy, in a small town, and on a Thursday afternoon… But in the end, was quite happy to admire some works from artists I know from newspapers, websites or magazines : I believe this show had a success and I look forward to the next edition.
Time to go back to the drawing board…
