Guests

The guest list for a child’s party usually consists of just about everyone in your child’s class, everyone who lives on the same street, and then the friends of all those people.  This can fast turn into a recipe for disaster, as you have hyper children, overloaded with sugar, tearing about the place.  What makes it worse?  You are responsible for all of these children so you’d better be on your toes so that nothing bad happens.  To avoid this, ensure that only your child’s best friends are invited so that they can all use the bouncy castle you hired safely and at the same time.  Enlist the helpful services of other parents to keep a watchful eye over the on goings.

Entertainment

The traditional entertainment for kids’ parties would be to hire a bouncy castle, hire a clown to amaze them with his balloon animal-making skills, and maybe some games such as pin the tail on the donkey.  Try introducing other fun games such as:

  • Musical Chairs
  • Musical Statues
  • Simon says
  • Guess How Many – For this game, fill a jar with sweets and get each child to guess how many are in there.  Whoever was closest with their guess gets to keep all the sweets!
  • Silence Game – Here, you split the children into two groups.  They then sit opposite each other and start at the other group while keeping straight faces.  Whoever laughs is out.
  • Hot and Cold – Tell all the children to close their eyes and when they have, hide an item in the room.  The children then open their eyes and have to hunt for it.

Food

Try to make food fun for the party or, even better, disguise healthy food as sugary snacks.  This way it’s a win-win as the children think they are eating sweets but are really getting good nutrition.  Use some of these food favorites:

  • Rice Krispie Buns – Simple and delicious, rice krispie buns have been a firm favorite for years and years.  They are extremely easy to make and allow you to introduce fun alternatives such as adding marshmallows, melted chocolate and sprinkles.
  • Dipped Apples – Take some apples, pears or whatever fruit takes your fancy.  Dip this in some melted chocolate and let them harden.  To spruce it up a bit, dip the apples in nuts, sprinkles or chocolate shavings before the chocolate melts to add an extra bit to your party treats.

Remember, don’t let the children on the bouncy castle or run around while they are eating as this can create a choking hazard.
