OCTOBER IS TURNING PINK TO SPREAD BREAST CANCER AWARENESS!

Did you know Breast Cancer is the 2nd deadliest cause of death in women around the world?

Pink October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month

That’s especially shocking to me being recent technologies enable us to catch Breast Cancer in it’s earliest stages! However, if you’re a man or woman who is not being proactive by performing monthly self-breast exams or women having a mammogram, you could be increasing your risk for survival!

Statistics indicate a woman will succumb to breast cancer every 45 minutes!

This is unacceptable to me! As a woman who had a scare with breast cysts, I highly recommend you join me in being proactive! Let’s learn a bit more about breast cancer.

Learn the signs

By doing self-breast exams, men and women learn the “feel” and “shape” of their own breasts making it easier to detect any changes that may arise.

Changes could include:

  • a lump or mass in the breast, generally painless
  • skin irritations around the breast or nipple to include redness or scaliness
  • nipple abnormalities – discharge, retraction, or ulcerations
  • thickening or swelling of the skin
NOTE: Breast pain is more likely to be #benign that an indication of #cancerClick To Tweet

Risk factors

  • weight gain leading to obesity
  • lack of exercise or physical activity
  • alcohol consumption
  • heavy smoking

Less than common factors

  • high bone mineral density
  • high breast tissue density (dense breasts)
  • type 2 diabetes
