On your journey to greatness you will come to some stop signs, make wrong turns, run out of gas and possibly get a flat. All while traveling uphill and against the wind. Did I mention you are traveling on a bicycle? Finally, right before you get to the top of the hill you will be staring off into the horizon, exhausted, discouraged, but stubborn as a you know what. That is an important trait.
Stubbornness. Maybe it would be better if we called it persistence?
When you have gone through hell, and all you see is empty road ahead of you, your stubborn, persistence is what keeps you staring straight ahead, holding on tightly to the handlebars. Pressing on, one pedal after another. You’re pressing on because at the end of all of this is a prize
And when you get there… ah.. sweet relief. You can finally breath and enjoy all the hard work that it took to get there.
In life the top of the hill is merely a milestone that approves of the direction you are going. It is the ice cold glass of water that fills you up and recharges you for your next endeavor to greatness.
No matter where you are in life, you are always going somewhere. Whether your road is flat, bumpy or all uphill, you will probably run into some trouble. Maybe some severe stormy weather is headed your way… Despite it all, I beg you to press, because pressing on results in hope, and if your hope lies in Jesus then I promise you will eventually receive a lasting prize.
“Not only so, but we can rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts, by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5:3-5
Getting over life’s obstacles is tough, but I am determined to do it! Will you press on with me? Whatever keeps popping up in your life that seems to slow you down, bring you down, turn you around – just keep moving through it and know your prize is waiting at the top!
