Located at an altitude of 2133.5 m, with Mount Kanchenjunga as the backdrop, it is renowned for preserving and breeding animals adapted to alpine conditions. The zoo has found immense success in breeding most endangered species like red panda, snow leopard and Siberian tiger. It has also various other rare species of animals like gorals and few rare birds. The zoo remains crowded almost round the year but the best time to visit is around April to June and September to December. It is located at a quite place just above Singamari and is clean and peaceful unlike the main town.
