Let me start by saying that I really love Pacifica. They are an entirely vegan
company and have some fantastic products. However, today’s review is not for
one of my favorites. Recently Pacifica added a pretty extensive skin care range
at Ulta. The mask selection is seriously impressive and there is a sampler pack
that I’m currently working my way through and enjoying. The masks seem really
good so far! Unfortunately, the Instant
Karma Facial Cleansing Oil is a different story.
My main problem with the Cleansing Oil is the consistency.
When used in the amount directed, it is very
oily. I don’t have a problem with that so much, but it’s the kind of oily that
just sits on top of the skin and feels like a grease slick. If I had dry skin,
this might be more welcome, but even then I feel like you want something that sinks in, not just sits on top. Had I
noticed that, hidden on the back, it says that this is a product for “dry,
sensitive skin,” I may have passed since I don’t have either. This subtle label
is not exactly prominently marked on the package though, so how was I to know?
As I said though, I feel like this doesn’t absorb into the skin making it seem
useless for any skin type.
That being said, it does
remove makeup. The first time I tried it, I thought the directions said to use
only a few drops – it actually says use 1-2 full
droppers. I didn’t mind the consistency so much with a few drops, but it
didn’t remove makeup to save its life. With a full dropper worth of oil, it had
absolutely no trouble removing every last stitch of makeup from my face, but I
still just can’t get past the consistency. Not to mention that this Cleansing
Oil probably won’t last long when used at that rate!
Since I keep mentioning the dropper, that’s another thing
I’m not too fond of. It’s not a deal breaker, but the glass bottle dispenses
the oil with a rather long glass dropper. It’s almost the full depth of the
bottle, which is pretty tall and skinny. I just find it’s kind of a messy way
to dispense a cleanser and the amount of Cleansing Oil required seems
excessive…especially considering the less-than-generous quantity in the bottle.
A full dropper worth of Cleansing Oil is rather difficult to keep in my palm!
Fear not, there are
positives, with this Cleansing Oil too. Not to start with looks, but you can’t
miss that the packaging is beautiful!
As always with Pacifica products, the box is gorgeous with it’s gold foil
embossing and pretty graphic design work. The bottle itself is also beautiful
and the fact that it’s glass makes it feel even fancier. Not just a pretty
face, it’s made with some spectacular ingredients!
Ingredients: Sunflower Oil, Avocado
Oil, Jojoba Oil, Tocopherol, Capric Caprylic Triglyceride, Argan Oil, Olive
Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Jasmine Essential Oil, Parfum (all natural)
I could do without the added fragrance, but it does smell nice…another Pacifica
hallmark. It’s a beautiful soft floral scent – I’m guessing it’s a Jasmine scent
from the ingredients, but I’m no floral expert! J
It is formulated without silicone, animal ingredients, petroleum, parabens or
phthalates, and of course is vegan and cruelty free. Not without it’s pros, but
it’s an oil slick in waiting housed in a beautiful bottle.
I’m sorry Pacifica, but your Instant Karma Facial Cleansing Oil just doesn’t quite work for me.
Perhaps it’s fantastic for some, but the massive amount required and the oily
residue left behind just do not make for a pleasant experience in my book. The
beautiful bottle is lovely, but I feel the product inside will not last long
making it not very cost effective, as well as awkward to use. It smells lovely
and it is beautiful to look at, but I think I will look to some of your other
new skin care products to meet my needs!
