Outback Bar and Grill, Leisure Inn West Gurgaon - Sit and Relax
By Maneesh Srivastva @urbanescapadesWhen I got invite to review Outback bar and Grill, Gurgaon, this was one of those places I had not heard before. It is situated inside a luxury boutique hotel on old Delhi Highway and close to the famous sec 14 market of Gurgaon.
I reached there on time because it was Saturday evening and I didn’t get any traffic. Leisue In hotel is situatated next to the market. Outback grill and bar has a live kitchen. It’s an open bar under the big maragosa tree. Even at 8 it was really hot but they had big fan and it was pleasant after sometime. We were greeted by PR and their GM and later been introduced to their chef Abhishek Mathur. Menu was very impressive and it had some all-time classic dishes like beliram meat, murg wajidshahi, dal quiraishi and the old classic gosht halwa. After a small chat with Chef Abhiskek I was really excited and looking forward to taste some classic dishes along with some of his own creations. After the discussions and chats we decided to follow chef’s recommendations. In starters, malai jhinga and pepper fish satay were clearly the winner. Crispy, cooked and moist inside, the malai jhinga was absolutely a winner and will go well with any drink. In the meantime I was also enjoying my drinks. In veg starters, Malai Broccoli and Mushroom kive stood as winner. I generally don’t eat veg; however I heartily enjoyed malai broccoli and mushroom kive. It had the natural crunchiness of broccoli and a nice succulent and juicy texture. Shikampuri kebabs were letdown as it had no flavor. Dahi ke suley was exceptionally good and absolutely delicious – spices and ingredients mixed in hung curd and deep fried. We then moved to main course and I was looking forward to try some timeless classic dishes. We started with Beliram meat, murg wajidshahi, dal Qureshi and imli ki macchi with assorted breads and Dum ghost biryani. For me dal Qureshi was an absolute stunner as I never had green mung dal in any restaurant before. It was delicious. Beliram meat had the perfect gravy and excellent flavor and I wished that the meat could have been little tenderer. Murg wajidshai (chicken malai tikka) failed to impress us. We loved imli ki macchi. It was the best main dish. Biryani was nothing exceptional and was passable. For the desserts Chef Abhishek had a s big surpise for us. Pan kulfi was good and had excellent flavor of pan. Ghost halwa is old classic desert which Chef Abhishek is trying to revive. Ghost halwa is a classic muslim desert, cooked with small chunks of meat in it. According to Chef Abhishek, customers love this dessert. Personally I didn’t enjoy much as I don’t prefer meat with anything sweet. Outback is a nice open place to chill with friends and family and enjoy couple of drinks with lip smacking starters.I would certainly come back here to try prawns, broccoli and dahi ke suley.
