The ceremony
One of my favourite parts of the day, I adored this vintage Indian Ambassador from Karma Kars. It was lined with beautiful sari fabric on the inside, and the driver was an absolute sweetie. The chilled music meant there was no way I could get nervous! Oh, and the horn made a variety of different noises, including a wolf whistle – fabulous.Homemade orders of service featuring different Penguin book designs – I loved making these and was pretty pleased with the way they turned out.Beautiful bridesmaids – thank you so much girls, you were wonderful. The ceremony took place at Forest Hill’s Horniman Museum, in the stunning old conservatory. We were lucky to have lots of friends and family make incredible contributions to the wedding – my Dad walked me down the aisle, my little brother William read a Yeats poem beautifully, our friend Charlotta read a poem in Welsh and friend and bridesmaid Astrid sang ‘For Your Eyes Only’. Thank you all, you really made it incredibly special. The dress, which I fell in love with at first sight, was a vintage seventies bargain on eBay. It had to have a fair bit of work done to it though – I shall be eternally grateful to Allison Blake for throwing herself life and soul into the project. Paul was suited and booted almost head to toe by Marks and Spencer, save for his dashing white cotton Nehru-collar shirt, which came from India. The receptionWe held the reception in a marquee in my parents’ back garden – we wanted it to be a pretty chilled out affair, rather than a traditional sit down meal. The marquee was decorated with colourful bunting and 1000 origami birds that I made by hand and strung up for good luck.We hired a wonderful selection of mismatched vintage china from the lovely people at the Crockery Cupboard. We served champagne in the tea cups, and used the beautiful plates for the main course of hog roast and salads. There was a dessert table afterwards full of delicious cupcakes, brownies and tarts made by our talented friends and family. The boys at Love Me Tender cooked up a seriously tasty hog roast.Thank you to Astrid for stitching us this fantastic sampler. My gorgeous friend Oloma is a talented belly dancer, and kindly agreed to perform at our reception. She did a wonderful job and was a huge hit!And finally – I love clothes, so of course I had to have two outfits. For my going away outfit, I changed into this vintage skirt from Love Miss Daisy, my beloved Aruna Seth shoes and a ‘Just Married’ Royal Wedding vest top from Primark.
A massive thank you for everyone who helped us to organise and celebrate our wedding – it really was a day put together with love, and it made us so happy. Huge thanks must also go to Ben Coxon, who documented it so well with all his photos.
