"I, who stopped that day with this old story. I’m spending more time away than when I loved you. Beyond the Milky Way, in a distant, far away place. I, who cross our white memories. Since at least, even in dreams, it’s okay"
On April 16th, 2014, well over two years ago, the MV Sewol Ferry capsized off the shore of Incheon, South Korea. This tragedy reached, not only domestic, but an international level of attention. Koreans and people world-wide mourned the sad death of passengers, who were mostly high-school seniors, by praying and wearing yellow ribbons to symbolize the loss.
If you are not Korean or into Korean entertainment you probably did not know that this happened. I thought I would highlight this event because it was the premise of Red Velvet's latest song One Of These Nights. When I saw this video, I knew I had to try the point-makeup of the video, which was the yellow eyeshadow worn by Irene and Seulgi.
The look is very simple and I can best describe it as delicate. A very clean, blurred base with a light pink gloss and canary-colored eyeshadow. Of course I do not have perfect skin, and many blemishes were edited out, BUT I did not use the all over face blur :D (one step at a time) Products used...

The Mac eyeshadow was quite tricky because IreSeul (Irene + Seulgi) used a subtle yet vibrant yellow eyeshadow and Chrome Yellow is a matte warm-yellow. I wanted something a little more cool-toned and even with the white base, I had quite a bit of trouble applying it onto the lid. My eye area is dry, so the shadow would apply patchy which is not what I was going for. It took a good several minutes and different brushes to apply the color. My favorite was just a flat shading brush.
The music video used a plethora of symbolism to interpret the MV Sewol Ferry Sinking. It took a couple of weeks, with the help of Korean Netizens, to find these hints in the video. You can read more about that here. It is very interesting and I highly suggest reading it ^_^
The one word that stood out to me during the entire song was the word 'story.' Believe or not, it is a very powerful word in this song's message. When someone graduates high school, many believe it as a fresh start into a new world (no pun intended, you would get it if you are a SONE). To have someone's story end so abruptly is very disheartening. Once in a while, I do think about the students who lost their lives in this incident. It reminds me to be thankful of my life when I feel low because you never know how quickly it can be snatched from you.
The music video is below and I really enjoyed watching it because of the amazing visuals and soulful ballad. Please show them oodles of love in the future.
What music video makeup re-creations do you want to see? Tell me below ^_^
Happy Tuesday!
