NYX Butter Lipstick in Licorice - Review, Swatches

By Get Set Blush @GetSet_Blush

Hey munchkins..Happy Weekend! I am back after my not so old post, The Body Shop Extra Virgin Mineral Foundation Review  After a long wait, I finally got my hands on the latest lippie sensation from NYX- their new Butter Lipsticks. NYX had launched their Butter Glosses earlier and their Butter Lipsticks came out this New Year, though there was a lot of buzz around it in the blog world.

NYX has 22 shades in this range and I would love to buy them all; unfortunately NYX doesn’t have an online store in Canada and though you can buy some items from Rexall, we don’t get any new products here [NYX, are you listening to my prayers to come here?]. So usually when I see all those new product releases, I just sigh and hope that someday NYX will come here as I don’t want to pay crazy for shipping. But I just couldn’t resist the new Butter Glosses and Lipsticks, so got some shades from a nice seller in Ebay [Let me know if you want the details]

What NYX says about their Butter Lipsticks? The unique texture seems to melt onto the lips, giving full, yet lightweight coverage with a luxurious satin finish. What it is: Full coverage lipstick that feels like it melts onto the lips. What it does: Adds a pop of color to lips. Why we love it: This lightweight formula is non-sticky and deposits high impact color with just one stroke. How to use: Apply directly on bare lips or over lip liner/primer for more pigmentation.

Price:

NYX Butter lipstick costs around $6 USD and you can check them here
My Experience: Let me start with the packaging – I am happy whenever I see a lipstick casing that is different; black casings are so common and so boring. Kudos to NYX for coming up with a casing to match the lipstick color- it makes it so much easier to find out the shade.

NYX describes the shade Licorice as a Dark Deep Burgundy shade and I agree. The color appears very dark in the tube but on application, it gives a sheer wash of a purplish-wine red color. It is a very flattering color for warm olive skin tones which we Indian gals have and is a good lip color for Fall & Winter.

Here I have swatched it against Inglot Lip refill 65 [My review on Inglot 65 is here] The color can be built upon and made to look more intensive. I like this lipstick as it lets me choose the color intensity as opposed to a full-pigmented lipstick which can be harder to sheer out. The best part is the moisturizing effect. Even in the winter here in Toronto, I could wear this color without a lip balm [I don’t have dry lips naturally]. This is almost like a more pigmented and less heavier version of the Revlon Lip butter. I found this lipstick very comfortable to wear; the staying power is pretty average [approx. 2-3 hours without food] though it leaves some color behind. I don’t mind that as I don’t expect long wear from such a moisturizing lipstick. Overall, I am pretty happy with this lipstick. I may not repurchase this as it is not easily available here in Canada and its neither a must-must-have or a very unique shade. Final Words:
I have also reviewed another shade here: http://thatmakeuplady.blogspot.ca/2014/02/review-and-swatches-nyx-butter-lipstick.html Did you get a chance to try these out? What are you impressions?
