Nuansa Spa

Nuansa SpaAbout five weeks ago, Midtown Manhattan welcomed a new luxury spa to the neighborhood. Nuansa Spa is a relaxing oasis: a boutique spa that delivers a unique experience, outstanding service, and complete tranquility. Founder Nuanchawee Faiwongsa's inspiration was to "create an urban escape where service and attention to detail create a unique customer experience." She notes that "creating a team that can deliver this vision takes time but is equally rewarding."

On a muggy, summer afternoon I hopped in the shower only to jump on a disgustingly hot subway ride to Midtown East. I felt gross, and couldn't help but feel sorry for the masseuse that had to deal with me. Luckily, Nuansa Spa offers a private locker room equipped with a state-of-the-art waterfall shower. I was in heaven! I rinsed off again, threw on a fluffy robe, and was guided into a private room where I slipped into an intense relaxation. Escaping the hectic energy of the city was exactly what I needed.

The Nuansa Spa offers an extensive selection of services, but which one would Nuanchawee recommend the most? "That's a tough one. I run three times a week to keep my body healthy, but as a business woman my muscles don't get enough stretching. Our Awakening Thai Yoga is an obvious choice. It combines elements of Yoga, Shiatsu and Acupressure creating a relaxing yet energizing experience. But if I was with my husband, I would of definitely chose the Sweet Moments massage, a very romantic experience to share with your significant other." Personally I went with the Nuansa Classic massage, which combines traditional western styles with stretching elements of traditional Thai Massage.

Nuanchawee was trained in traditional Thai Massage at the Wat Po Traditional Medical School in Bangkok. After owning a spa in Thailand for several years, she wanted to create that same calming and healing experience for people in New York: "I don't practice massage therapy myself anymore, but understanding what makes a good therapist allows me to create a team that can deliver the special experience I want my customers to have. Unique treatments like our Samunaprai Thai Poultice massage will leave you calm and relaxed, but it's our team's attention to service and detail that will make you want to come back."
