This week we said goodbye to my car. Engine problems that were just too expensive to fix meant it was taken away on the back of a lorry off to the scrapyard.

I know to some it is just a car, but it did feel quite emotional saying goodbye to something that has been such a big part of our lives for the past 5 years.
It has taken us up to Scotland on many occasions to visit family and we have had some great day trips out to farms, the seaside, Little Fun Fest and many, many others.

We have also been on some great holidays in it. We have had three fantastic holidays down South.
Not long after we bought the car we had a mammoth trip to Cornwall with our friends and a stop over at Warwick on the way home. It was our first proper holiday with Little Mr A and we set about exploring the area a lot.

Our next holiday was our first on our own as a family of three when we stayed in a lovely cottage in Devon. We went all over, including a trip to Longleat, which Little Mr A wasn't really old enough to appreciate at the time and it was quite a stressful drive around the park!

The next time we went to down South to Dorset with Big Mr A's parents whilst I was heavily pregnant with Little Miss A. Again we went all over, and had another trip to Longleat which was much more enjoyable!
Before we moved up to Yorkshire we had a camping holiday near Scarborough - the car laden down with camping equipment ready for Little Mr A's first adventure holiday camping. It rained pretty much all week and the car was a great place to keep everything dry!

Last year we had an amazing holiday in Derbyshire - our first holiday as a family of four. We went out every day to a different place.

As well as all of the great days out and holidays, it is the car Big Mr A drove me to the hospital whilst I was in labour with Little Miss A (there are probably still bite marks in the seatbelt!) and the car in which she was brought home the next day.

More recently it has been my way of getting out of the house with Little Miss A. We started to attend a toddler group which she loved and would go out to get the shopping once a week. Due to the time it would take me to walk to toddler group it is not now going to be possible for us to go until we can afford a new car as we just wouldn't make it home in time to pick up Little Mr A from school. Buses around us aren't very regular although are an option to get us out and about on the odd occasion.
I feel like I have lost that little bit of independence. Even though I didn't use it everyday it was nice to know I had a means of getting out and about with Little Miss A should we need to.
I don't know how long it will be until we can afford another car. Thankfully we still have Big Mr A's banger which will get us out and about a little bit at the weekends so we aren't completely stuck!
I don't think you really appreciate how important having transport available is until it is not there anymore!
Thanks for the memories car - I will miss having you on the driveway (but won't miss the copious amounts of oil you drank or the garage bills you have been giving us the past few months!).

Stay at Home Mum to two children - Little Mr A born in 2008 and Little Miss A born in 2012. Blogging my way through dirty nappies and school runs!
