Not Another Body Change!

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

featured guestThis week has been a roller coaster of emotions. It started last Wednesday when I bought my first bottle of wrinkle cream. That morning I took a look at my face in a 10x view mirror and by the end of the day I was at Walmart buying Revlon’s Revitalift Cream. I mean, I knew that day would come, but so soon??

Fast forward to last night.

I got out of the shower and started putting on body cream. Not just any cream, but Nivea’s Firming/Cellulite Gel. Yep, I’m fighting the cellulite battle too! By the way, that stuff works! I have noticed a difference in my skin’s appearance, but I digress. I’m putting on the cream when low and behold I noticed a varicose vein!

“Are you freakin’ kidding me with this s%&t?” Those are the exact words that came out of my mouth as soon as I saw it. I even got a lump in my throat! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. On top of all the other changes I’m going through, now this!?!

After the mini-freak-out session, I gathered myself and asked for forgiveness for every mean thing I said about a certain someone who had these. Come on now, I was a teen at the time, I didn’t know karma was a bitch back then.

I took a deep breath and realized this was out of my control. No use crying over something that’s only natural. So I wondered what I can do about it and started doing some homework.

What Are Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are swollen, twisted, and sometimes painful veins that have filled with an abnormal collection of blood.  They appear dark blue, swollen, and twisted under the skin. Sometimes painful?? Now there’s pain involved?? Come on!

What Causes Varicose Veins

I was on webmd.com and I read varicose veins is hereditary (thanks a lot Mom) and may occur as we get older but also being overweight, pregnant, or if you’re job requires you to stand for long periods of time can cause varicose veins.

Symptoms of Varicose Veins

Mild symptoms will cause your legs to feel heavy. You might even feel a burning sensation and achy and as you sit or stand for a long period of time, symptoms can worsen. Serious symptoms are swelling, skin changes, and open sores.

Experiencing These Symptoms? No Worries.

Here are treatment suggestions that are easy to do at home. Elevate your legs, avoid long periods of sitting or standing and get plenty of exercise. I know, I know, we all hate the “e” word. You can also wear a compress stocking to treat.

If there’s a silver lining in all of this, can someone tell me what it is please? Just kidding. It’s knowing sites like My Girly Parts to get great information for all the body changes we go through as we age gracefully. For more information on varicose veins, check out this post at webmd.com.
