From the Beaumont Children discussion:
AM & Interested, I also agree that environment & choice is a factor in some, but I also believe there are those who are born evil for which there is no redemption.
Maybe so, but even those people have a choice in how they behave.
Let us put it this way: Nobody, but nobody, but nobody, is forced to do evil things against their will! Every single one of these scumbags that is doing evil things is doing so because they want to! They are doing what they love, what they love to do. This is their joy – pain, suffering, rape, torture and murder. In a nutshell, it’s just their way of having fun. It’s their idea of a good time.
There is no redemption for some because they are absolutely committed to doing evil. They do not care. They don’t care about others and never will. They see absolutely nothing wrong with inflicting pain and suffering, raping, torturing and killing. They love it, they get off on it, and they don’t want to stop. Further, they are not worried about getting caught.
I think for some of them it does become an addiction though, but addictions can be broken.
The only exception maybe is some people who are mentally ill, as in psychotic. They are not in their right minds, and they might do evil things while in the midst of a psychosis, and perhaps it is not completely their fault.
But even psychotic people have varying levels of guilt. As a clinical psychologist once told me, “These people have a lot more control than you might think!”
But really, the bottom line is:
Nobody has to do anything.
