Usain Bolt became the first man to successfully defend both 100 and 200 sprint titles in an Olympic Games with a 19.32 clocking over 200 metres at the London Olympic Games.
“I am now a legend,” declared Usain Bolt, after becoming the first man to win the Olympic sprint double at back-to-back Games. And it’s difficult to argue that, given all he has achieved over the past four years. His 100m and 200m victories in London were particularly satisfying, as he had suffered defeats in both events to training partner Yohan Blake at the Jamaican Championships earlier in the year. But Bolt was able to turn on the magic when it mattered most, and he was rewarded with a 9.63 Olympic record in the 100m and a 19.32 clocking in the 200m, following them both with a victory in the 4x100m in a World record to boot.
For an athlete to claim the “fastest man in the world” title, you would be curious as to his training regimen and the secrets to his success. It’s no wonder then, that one of these secrets is chiropractic care from the official chiropractor for their Olympic Team. Bolt regularly utilizes chiropractic care not only to recover from injuries, but more importantly as well, to improve his performance. In 2006, a research study was performed to assess whether chiropractic treatments increased muscle strength in leg muscles and the results were conclusive and imperative for any athlete; either professional or recreational. The results of the study showed a significant (10%) increase in quadriceps (leg muscle) strength in the treatment group after the chiropractic treatment, while prior to the adjustment there was no statistical difference between treatment groups. This clearly indicates that chiropractic care increases muscle strength in any individual and has far reaching affects in every type of athlete as well as every other activity of daily living.
Whether you’re a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, Georgia Clinic of Chiropractic (Augusta, GA) successfully treats a wide range of athletes, and our treatments are tailored specifically to the sport you’re playing. A basketball player’s treatment would be different from a marathon runner just as much as a baseball player’s would be from a weightlifter. Additionally, Doctors of Chiropractic focus on the entire structure of the body rather than just the injury itself. For this reason, we can often detect and help to prevent an injury that might normally be overlooked or ignored.
In general, athletes, their agents, athletic trainers, and medical doctors understand the consequences of disabling the pain mechanism and have come to align themselves with the chiropractic perspective — treat the cause of the pain. For instance, NFL players both past and present, such as Jerry Rice, Willie McGinest and Jerome Bettis, understand and experience first-hand the significance of chiropractic in an athlete’s professional career. Chiropractic treatments help ensure that the body functions as efficiently as possible, which can maximize healing and recovery from all types of injuries. “I would estimate that in excess of 90% of all world-class athletes use chiropractic care to prevent injuries and to increase their potential.” says Sean Atkins, PhD Exercise Physiologist. For example, a Canadian research team included Chiropractic care in the rehabilitation program of sixteen injured female long distance runners. Not only did these runners recover quickly, seven of them actually scored “personal best” performances while under Chiropractic care.
