New Year, New You
Cheers friends! 2012, the year of the dragon, has arrived and so far, so good (aside from the BRR-inducing weather of course.) I hope you had a great time with family or friends, ringing in the new year. With the clock striking midnight, ads for Weight Watchers, Southbeach, Jenny Craig and a variety of detox options have arrived in my inbox.Yes, Google knows me better than I know myself - clearly. I don't think I gorged enough to warrant the barrage of emails but I do like to start the year off right so .... I am trying the Whole Living 21 Day Clean Eating Action Plan. We all know there are no miracle pills and getting back on the wagon is hard work (my gym bag is staring at me). But there is no better time to take that leap than the beginning of the year.
Getting back on the wagon is hard work and a little incentive/reward goes a long way. Right? This year, instead of an edible reward, how about feeding your eyes, ears and well, maybe your mind.... on the couch.
Top TV Shows to Catch in 2012 while becoming a healthier, shinier, newer YOU
New Year, New You
If you're ever in a world where you and your partner can't agree on a TV show, these are a sure bet. Hungry Husband and I both love and follow these series together. There is something for everyone. No more storage wars v Real Housewives v Swamp People v The Kardashians. We can watch quality television programs that appeal to both our interests. So while you're cleansing yourself in January, consider these top shows as a way to keep away from the fridge!
HomelandHooked on the first bite. Watched 6 episodes in 48 hours. Claire Danes and Mandy Patankin are a great pair. Makes you want to join the CIA.... well, maybe. The season just ended. It was mind blowingly good. Returns to TV screens in 2012. Thankfully, it was renewed.
The Thick Of ItBBC produced Brit comedy. Follows politicos in the thick of it (ha ha). Malcolm Tucker is an unforgettable character. I was resisting this at first but once you get a taste of the intensity, you can't stop watching. Production of 3rd season will start in March 2012. No word on when it'll air.
The Good WifeER meets L.A. Law meets Law & Order meets Mr. Big. Well, Mr. Big is Mr. Big Shot in this series, playing the State's Attorney and the cheatin' husband of Julianna Margulies. She doesn't say much but when she speaks, it's worth listening. Love the characters and the "right in the nick of time" legal battles. New season returns on Sunday, January 8th, 2012.
Mad MenI don't think I have to say much about this show. If you haven't watched it and/or heard of it, I think you need to drop everything you're doing and head straight to your couch & TV set. John Hamm is so easy on the eyes that the show leaves you wanting more and more....... and more. The attention to detail is what makes this show so great.  Coming back March 2012.
30 RockUmm. Tina Fey. Alex Baldwin. Tracey Morgan. That's one helluva sandwich. Funny, funny, funny. Yes, there are lots of great comedies on TV right now - Happy Endings, Parks & Recreation, Modern Family but 30 Rock leads the pack. It has better shock value and far wittier story lines.
The BorgiasOh Em Gee. I love that the first season declared The Borgias as the original crime family. Bang on. It's everything that you'd want in a period piece... sex, sex, sex, drunken debauchery, poisoning, priests, God, swords, fighting, horse carriages, costumes, incest, old-English. The list goes on. It has something for everyone.
BossIf you watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, you may not be a huge fan of Kelsey Grammer - no, not because of his appearances in the first few episodes but the way he dumped his wife on national TV. However, if you loved him as Frasier in Cheers and Frasier and can forget about his marital woes, he is amazing as the Mayor of Chicago - aka - Boss. Full of interesting characters battling a variety of issues, Chicago never looked this good. Oh and there is also plenty of nudity... drugs... and violence. You've been warned.
