Last year, Steven Soderbergh announced that he would make a film based on experiences Channing Tatum had in his youth as a male stripper. Needless to say there weren’t more giggles than believers. This is a new year though and things have changed. Tatum is coming off the great comedic success of 21 Jump Street and that will help give this film a bump in credibility.
While women shouldn’t really need to be sold on a film featuring the stripping men Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, and Michael McConaughey; Men will need a lot more convincing. There’s a strong romance angle in the trailer that might convince Tatum to lose the stripping act and get his life together. The good thing is that the trailer makes this story seem interesting, where this could’ve easily turned into a cheese-ball romance movie.
Apple has the trailer. Magic Mike hits on June 29.
