For many prisoners, books are one of the few things inside the prison walls that allow them to continue their education and growth. They also act as an escape from the terrible conditions they are forced to endure. Something as simple as a book or a letter can drastically improve the life of a prisoner and their time away from friends, family and the outside world. While many recently arrested activists receive a steady flow of books, letters and donations, it is important that we don’t forget those who have been behind bars for years, and who are still desperately in need of support from the outside.

The NYC Anarchist Black Cross has a list of book wish lists for current political prisoners. If you’re interested in sending books to other political prisoners, check out their list of book wish lists here.
