Nellikai/amla/Indian gooseberry is one of my favorite fruits.One of the very healthy fruits,amla is very rich in vitamin C,antioxidants.Unlike many fruits it is rarely consumed raw,we make lots of delicious recipes with amla and amla pickle always tops the list.Other than pickle few popular recipes with this fruit are amla juice,amla pachadi and a very simple yet tasty variety rice-nellikai sadam.Nellikai sadam is a very simple vegan rice preparation,made in the sames lines of lemon rice.Try this very simple,tangy and spicy rice I am sure you will love it.Have you ever tried drinking water after eating an amla,it tastes simply awesome,try it today I have not tried yet :)

Star ingredients:Nellika/amla/Indian gooseberry
Time:15 minutes
Serves:3

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups cooked rice,cooled
4 large Nellika/Indian gooseberry
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
10-12 cashew nuts
1 tablespoon peanuts
2-3 green chillies
1 teaspoon channa dal
1 teaspoon urad dal
1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
10-12 curry leaves
Salt
Sesame oil
Method:
1.Cook rice and cool thoroughly.The grain should be complete,y cooked and remain separate.Wash and grate the amla/chop very finely.
2.In a kadai,heat sesame oil and temper with mustard,urad ,channa dal and asafoetida
3.Add green chillies and curry leaves.Add cashew nuts,peanuts andsaute till golden.
4.Add the grated amla,salt and turmeric powder.Saute till the raw smell goes off and oil separates.
5.Now add the cooked rice,2 teaspoons sesame oil,switch off the flame and close the kadai.
6.After 5-10 minutes,open the lid and stir very gently.Serve warm with appalam/vadam
Notes:
1.Use sesame oil for authentic taste
2.You can avoid channa dal if you don't like
