Recently, Badger was kind enough to send me their newly reformulated Unscented Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Zinc Oxide Sunscreen Cream, which was one of In Style magazine’s “Best Beauty Buys” in 2011! Though sunscreen should be a daily essential, it is especially important now that the sun is finally emerging from the dreary days of winter. Lately I’ve been looking for a new sunscreen, so I was thrilled to see this in my mailbox and immediately set about testing it out! J
The Unscented Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Zinc Oxide Sunscreen Cream is part of Badger’s “Active” line of sun care, which is kind of the middle ground. They also have a line of “Daily” sunscreens for everyday wear, “Sport” sun creams that are water and sweat resistant for at least 80 minutes, and a super gentle “Baby and Kids” formula. The “Active” line is also water and sweat resistant for a minimum of 40 minutes. It is intended for hanging out at the beach or the pool, swimming and general outdoor activities. The “Active” line is the perfect middle ground!
The ingredients are simple, but this sunscreen should not be taken lightly! This cute little tube contains Sunflower Oil, Beeswax, Seabuckthorn, and Vitamin E derived solely from Sunflowers. The active sunscreen is Non-Nano Uncoated Zinc Oxide, which is an all-natural mineral sunscreen. It is 100% Certified Natural, 94% Certified Organic and is biodegradable. The Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Cream protects against UVA and UVB rays, which is a must in my book! As stated above, it is Water-Resistant for at least 40 minutes and non-Nano (this relates to the particle size). It is also PA+++ and carries the Leaping Bunny logo. Whew! That was a mouthful! Seems to me that Badger has all the critical sunscreen bases covered – and in a natural and organic manner!
As far as I can tell, this stuff works brilliantly! I haven’t hung out on the shores of St. Tropez to test it out (dare to dream!), but I tend to get a lovely lop-sided farmers tan around this time of year from driving in the car. You know the lovely driver’s-side-window farmer’s tan? Well, this seems to be preventing it! I know that’s not the greatest test, but I’m not going to try to burn just to test out a sun cream! J What I care most about when choosing a sunscreen is the application and feel of the sunscreen since I cannot really test how well it protects from the sun…well, unless it were to not work at all!
The Badger Unscented Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Cream feels good on the skin. It is supposed to help moisturize while protecting from the sun, and I would say that it does! It is not at all greasy or sticky, which is one of my biggest pet peeves with sunscreens. You can literally apply it and immediately get dressed without fear of sticking to anything. It rubs into the skin relatively well. It is a bit on thick side, but it spreads nicely and absorbs easily. As I said, no greasy residue and, if anything, my skin may feel a bit softer after using this sunscreen! It is considered Unscented and I’d have to agree that it is! There may be a faint hint of a non-scented kind of aroma in the tube (their website says it’s the natural scent from the beeswax), but you cannot smell it at all while applying it or after it’s applied. I’ve never found an unscented sunscreen that was truly unscented…until now! Overall, I think it’s a great sunscreen! Definitely worth a try!
