As of July 1, 2013, Google Reader is no more. The Quest for many of us to find a new reader to replace Google Reader has been long and hard and still some are left still very disgruntled.
More and more new readers are coming available yet imo are still not Google Reader. It can not be replaced yet I do believe we can come very close to the real deal.
I know some of you have followed my previous posts There’s a New Sheriff in Town where I talk about Bloglovin’ as an alternative and The Quest for a New Reader Continues where I talk about Bloglovin‘, Feedly, and The Old Reader (TOR).
To date, I have tested many. My biggest issue was having a mobile app as I am mobile most of the day hours. I have been using Bloglovin’ for mobile but still have not been 100% happy with it and Feedly was a big fail for me.
When I woke up on the 4th of July, grabbed my cellphone on my night stand and began to read my email, I saw GREAT NEWS!
Hmm…this looks like interesting news. So I clicked the link in my email from The Old Reader and got some even more exciting news!
Woohoo!! I can now access The Old Reader on my mobile (android) via gReader or gReader Pro! This is superfantastic news for me as I said once TOR was available via mobile, I was switching permanently to it!
So right away I downloaded the app to my Samsung Note 2 and configured it. VERY EASY! I’ve been reading it some today and opted for upgrade to PRO that would remove banners and give me a little more customization and am very pleased so far.
And don’t forget, you can still use the web version that I discussed previously.
How can you add new feeds to The Old Reader and how do you know when you have new feeds?
Well check out these little goodies!
- That’s right, there’s browser extensions for easy tracking via the most popular browsers out there.
- To subscribe to new feeds with a single click, configure ‘http://theoldreader.com/feeds/subscribe?url=%s’ in your RSS feed handler or extension
So what do you think about that?
Well did you know you can also:
That’s right! You can add it directly to Pocket; Share it with others; Mark as Read/Unread; or LIKE it which in turn let’s your friends now what you’ve liked!
Friends?
Oh yes!
You can find friends by using your Gmail account, Follow them, and find out what they are LIKING too!
I’m not trying to sell you on The Old Reader as we are all looking for different things in a reader, I just want you to know there is another option that is out there and available via Mobile.
Are you content with the reader you’ve chosen or will you check out The Old Reader now that it’s available via mobile on Android and IOS?
