My Biggest Regret

My name is Tami and I’m a smoker.  There I said it!  One of my biggest regrets in life is taking up smoking and continuing to start agin after the birth of both of my children.

I find it really easy to give up when I am pregnant but always find an excuse to start again.  After Little Mr A was born, the following summer we would go to the beer garden with friends and, at first, it was just a social thing, however, it soon turned back into full time smoking.

I gave up again when I found out I was pregnant with Little Miss A and had been doing really well up until Big Mr A went to America.  I had been getting myself stressed about him going in the few weeks leading up to it and when he went I cracked and bought some cigarettes.  I managed to go without any whilst in Scotland, however, I could feel myself being much more irritable and snappy with people and when we got home I started again.

Since then there has always been an excuse to carry on with empty promises to try harder to give up every week.  I know that the next few weeks are going to be hard work for various reasons, not to mention Christmas so I have no chance of giving up yet.  And anyway, who wants a grouchy Mum at Christmas?!

I am very conscious that the Little A’s see me smoking (outside I hasten to add!) and I would hate them to think that this is the norm.  I hope by the time they reach teenage years and beyond cigarettes are a thing of the past.

I am determined in 2014 to become a non smoker for good.  I am well aware of all of the risks and health issues and I think having two young children it would be selfish of me to continue putting the rubbish into my body knowing full well they could make me seriously ill.  As well as the health risks there are also financial implications.  I can’t get over how much they cost and I try not to think about it when I am buying them, however, I don’t want to get to the stage where we are going without our little weekend treats because I want to make sure I can afford a pack of cigarettes.

So Big Mr A and Little A’s be prepared for a very grouchy, snappy Big Mrs A in 2014 – I will kick this disgusting habit once and for all.
