I remember screening Bright Eyes live at SXSW last year, while talking to a friend in Canada. We were both in awe of Conor Oberst and sent messages back and forth commenting on his irate political rantings, and fighting over who was his biggest fan. My friend was bragging that he was going to see Bright Eyes at Sasquatch music festival in Washington within the next few months. He did go, and afterwards he told me if there was one band I had to see live, it was them. Unbelievably, I did get to see them in August that year. He was right. They were mega!
Today, people gathered to say goodbye to that friend. He lived life to its fullest, having an impact on every person he met, always smiling, unassuming and eager to share his positivity with everyone. To use one of his own favorite words, he was a "SAVAGE" human being.
I'm having a cup of tea and a biscuit now, thinking of you, David. Ski In Peace.
