Mumbai: 'Unique Tastes' of Maharashtra at The Peshwa Pavilion, ITC Maratha

By Thetastingfork
The Peshwa Pavilion at ITC Maratha introduced 'Unique Tastes' of Maharashtra in association with Kitchens of India. The festival saw Konkan, Malvani, Vidarbha and Kolhapuri flavours being played with in the food by Chef Dipti, and the outcome was nothing short of a delicious fare in front of us.

Tasted a few of the dishes in the form of a thali. The thali consisted of Dal, Kuppyacha Kalvan (Tuna in a thin kokum and red chilli curry), Kolhapuri Pandhra Rassa (Chicken cooked in a thin coconut, onion and green chilli curry), Batatyache Kalvan (Aloo cooked in a thick tomato and red chilli gravy), Kuppa Biryani (Biryani with Salmon and coriander), and Bhakri (jowar bread) and Kombdi Vada Poori (besan and lentils poori) in breads. For dessert, the thali had Dudhi Cha Halwa that was made of bottle gourd, and Chandrakala (something of a gujiya to give a sense of the taste). The welcome drink served was a Kokum sherbet, and there were five kinds of pickles and masalas on the table to be enjoyed with the food. The bitter gourd and garlic chutney were my favourites!

The best thing about the thali is that it is absolutely finger-licking good with simply no oil and butter to be seen. It tasted like homemade food but riding high on taste and flavor. The meats were well-cooked, the subjis were well-seasoned, the pooris were crisp- it was all really nice.

Their Maharashtra menu is available both in their ala carte menu as well as in their buffet, so for someone who is looking to try some flavours of Maharashtra and looking for a yummy meal that's not at all greasy and heavy, Peshwa Pavilion is the place!
