More Information on the AliveCor ECG Device

Posted on the 25 February 2013 by Ironcomet @Ironcomet

This is a video from NBC from January 2013. It shows Eric Topol, MD and it covers a lot of other cool devices but there is a showing by the AliveCor ECG. Dr. Topol is the director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute and chief academic officer of San Diego-based Scripps Health. He is one of the country’s leading cardiologist, so therefore, knows a little bit about what he speaks.

Dr. Topol shows the ECG device in use with a patient to NBC. Its very interesting how this device is so non-invasive in the patient doctor meeting.

Watch the video and see what you think. This is the future of medicine coming. So many new devices are being released that connect to our cell phones to allow us and our doctors to better monitor our patient care. In this new age of medicine, our care will be far more tailored to our individual needs driven by data collected by devices such as these. That will enable health care professionals to make more informed decisions based on this individual information.

In the near future, data from devices such as these will be shared with EMR products like McKesson’s Medisoft Clinical. This will allow physicians to collect information remotely from their patients directly into the EMR product for monitoring.

Another interesting aspect of devices such as these is that they cut costs for medical billing. By performing this at home, the patient saves himself the extra charge of a technician administering the test. It also saves the visit to the office. Co-pays, co-insurances, oh my!

If you are interested in learning more about how technology will be changing medicine, try Dr. Topol’s book. Its is called “The Creative Destruction of Medicine”. You can read more about it by clicking on the book cover below (Amazon.com).
