I say universally accepted because HBD is not a science, it is an alternative science (pseudoscience) using a different logic that can’t be replicated within a scientific frame. Also, don’t overestimate the weight given to the HBD position, there is not that much of a debate, Lynn and Rushton are not taken seriously at all and HBD is almost taken as seriously as creationism. Really, you can go to any university, read 99.99% of book dealing with society, genes are never ever mentioned, just like Adam and Eve.
None of this is true.
Lynn, Rushton, Jensen and Murray are taken extremely seriously in the field of the study of intelligence, in fact, the major journals in the field regularly run their pieces and their opponents like Richerts and Flynn regularly engage in them in debates in the major journals.
Modified HBD is simply fact. It is scientific consensus now that genes play a major role in human behavior and intelligence. There’s not even any debate about it anymore. The estimates of how much IQ is genetic range from 50-80%, but they are not controversial in science.
If I am not mistaken, Wicherts etc. do not deny that genes can have a major effect on IQ within a population, a group or a race. The controversy is about whether the differences between groups are due to genes or not. Wicherts et al say within group differences are significantly genetic but between group differences are not, and that’s all they are saying.
What is the definition of HBD? Is the definition of HBD that genes play a significant role in personality and intelligence? If that is so, that HBD is simply standard accepted scientific consensus.
The positions argued here, that none of the variation in human IQ or personality is explained by genes, is radical environmentalism. It is so radical that even hardline environmentalists do not believe in it. It is a minority view in science. At one time it seemed to be majority view, maybe 30-40 years ago, but those days have passed.
Arguing that HBD is pseudoscience is nonsense because really no one thinks it is. Even Wicherts would not say it is pseudoscience.
So to recapitulate:
(Modified) HBD is standard scientific consensus regarding human personality and intelligence.
Hardline environmentalism as espoused on this site is a minority view. It was once perhaps consensus but that day has passed.
