Monsoon season was getting into full swing as I went to Puerto Princesa, Palawan; hence, the weather was unfavorable most parts of the weekend. That made me cancel most of my plans. The good thing was that I was billeted Microtel by Wyndham Puerto Princesa, which had nice rooms and outstanding service, so my weekend didn’t go to waste. Read more…
LOCATION
Microtel by Wyndham Puerto Princesa in Emerald Beach is tucked away from the city center and is reachable by tricycle, metered taxi, or hired van. Although there’s not a single store nor restaurant other than its own in the area, the hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service to Robinsons Place Palawan, on top of its free departure and arrival airport service.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Microtel by Wyndham is the pioneer of the select-service or no-frills hotel concept in the Philippines, providing “consistently clean, comfortable, and secure accommodations at value rates.” It follows the international hospitality standards set by the Wyndham Hotel Group, which has more than 7,600 hotels worldwide and is behind such brands as Days Hotel and Ramada. Today, there are 13 Microtel by Wyndham in the Philippines, including the one in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
Microtel by Wyndham Puerto Princesa is a small hotel split into two floors. Its interiors are simple, and it’s homely enough for it to feel like a big guesthouse of sorts. Its remote location gives much tranquility—perfect for those who are seeking to escape the city.
ROOMS
I stayed in a Queen Double Room, which had direct access to the beach and the pool area. The room is laid out simply, not five-star but certainly better than most options in the city.
The room is furnished with two chiropractor-approved queen beds that may sleep a family with kids comfortably, a dresser, personal refrigerator, coffee and tea making facility, closet, safety deposit box, and LED TV. The spotless bathroom, meanwhile, is supplied well with towels and amenities.
FACILITIES
The hotel has a large swimming pool with a view of the beach, function and meeting rooms, and free-flow water and coffee at the lobby.
FOOD AND DRINK
Senordamla, the hotel’s sole restaurant, serves a modest yet filling breakfast spread consisting of Western and Filipino items.
SERVICE
Service, I believe, is the hotel’s best aspect. Aside from being friendly and hospitable, the staff handled all my requests efficiently and made sure that I had an excellent stay.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Rates at Microtel by Wyndham Puerto Princesa are above the average, but its rooms and service justify the cost. Wyndham Rewards members get discounts on nightly rates on top of extra perks. Membership to the program is free.
