Mexican Food Festival at Eggspectation, Jaypee Siddharth ! Buen Provecho !
By Maneesh Srivastva @urbanescapadesJaypee Hotels, One of the finest Hospitality Groups in India operating since 1981, won points with me in their hospitality when they arranged my pick up and drop for the Blogger’s event of Mexican Food Festival held at Eggspectation, their 24 hour resto cafe at Jaypee Siddharth! Though the driver was a novice and made me reach the place after much of an adventurous journey, the gesture really touched me. When I entered, I was greeted with smiles all around. That really lightened up my mood and I was impressed to see almost all tables were full at around 1 pm on a Saturday afternoon.
The place gives you a nice casual, cosy feel and the service is something to be mentioned. Quick, efficient and all done with smiles, not only at our table but all the tables around. And no doubt, this might be a reason for some of the people being regulars there since a decade, as being told to me by the F n B Manager Prashant Mehta who himself is a food enthusiast!
Joined at our table were also Arsheen Gujral, the Executive-Marketing and Communication, The General Manager Inder Pal Singh, and one of the “sweetest” chefs I have ever met Mr. Ashish Joshi. Humble, Friendly and a personality with so much diverse knowledge about food, we loved hearing about his Food journey till now. Someone who regards blogging and writing as a passion, he himself used to write about food when he had time at hand. To wear out the warm weather outside, we started with a nice drink of Lime and coke topped with ice ! After hearing from the Chef about why and how he thinks there were similarities between Indian and Mexican food ( which he said are in terms of using spices majorly as chillies, tamarind etc and also in terms of the method of cooking like using grinding stone, mortar and pestle etc), a nice tangy Tortilla soup made way to our table. To go along with it, The Enchilada Bella salad was fresh and tasty. And yes, One serving portion is good enough for two.
Since I am a vegetarian, I was not let down with the options I had. The Bean burritos had such delightful flavours, they really exploded in my mouth. The Chili Sin Carne ( A version of Chili con Carne without meat) had such flavourful taste with a spicy stew of Beans and soya, that I finished the whole serving on my plate relishing it. Since there are a lot of colleges around, keeping the youth and on-the-go crowd in mind, they have designed a Mexican bean Burger with Red Mole Salsa. The patty which was soft from inside and crisp from outside tasted divine. The dishes looked Stupendous with thorough detailing given to the presentation as much as the taste. Worth a mention are even the accompaniments of Sour cream and Salsa, which tasted authentic.
I didn’t and couldn’t taste the non vegetarian dishes, but the other bloggers really relished on Polo Veracruz, The Sea Food Enchilada, Cajun spiced Chicken Quesadilla and the Chilli Con Carne. And I could make out from their happy faces that they did enjoy what they ate!
And then came the treat for the Dessertarians!!! Anise Churros with Chocolate Sauce was highly addictive and I couldn’t help sing the line “No one can eat just one!”. But the Apple Enchilada made the afternoon! Maintaining the perfect sweetness, it really melted in the mouth. Smothered in Maple Syrup, they were truly an Indulgence !
A nice blend of salty, hot, spicy, juicy and tangy flavours, this Festival satisfies all your taste buds and leaves you satisfied. The festival is on till the 19th April. So don’t miss this one ! We give it a 4/5.
