1) Kasabian – Ill Ray King

Kasabian dropped their new single ‘Ill Ray King’, which serves as the follow up to the previously released ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’. ‘Ill Ray’ King is taken from their forthcoming album For Crying Out Loud and serves up a feisty track, combining influences of 70’s rock, disco and funk – not to mention their trademark fast-paced riffs and catchy lyrics. The new single also serves up a more playful melody, much like we heard in ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’. For Crying Out Loud is the band’s sixth studio album and follow up to 2014’s 48:13, featuring singles ‘Eez-eh’, ‘Bumble Bee’ and ‘Stevie’. XL Recordings boss, Richard Russell, unveiled his new collaborative EP ‘Close But Not Quite’ under the moniker Everything Is Recorded. The title track samples Curtis Mayfield’s 1970’s song ‘The Making Of You’, and bares noticeable similarities to Sampha’s’ captivating falsetto vocals. The ‘duet’ of sorts, showcases Sampha’s achingly beautiful vocals working in perfect harmony with Mayfield’s equally delicate and soulful vocals. Russell’s subtle orchestration, including soft drums, twinkling keys, handclaps and flourishes of strings, weave seamlessly throughout. Other artists on the EP include Giggs, Warren Ellis and Mela Murder. Close But Not Quite is available now. I last featured London Grammar in my April’s selections, with their single ‘Oh Woman Oh Man’. Now, Detroit-based producer/DJ and house music aficionado, Marc Kinchen, (aka MK) has taken on official remix duties, following the success of his remix for Clean Bandit’s ‘Symphony’ ft Zara Larsson. MK’s remix takes ‘Oh Woman Oh Man’ to euphoric new heights. 11) Liam Gallagher – Wall Of Glass

Guess who’s back? Yes, former Oasis frontman, Liam Gallagher, made a triumphant stride with the release of his debut solo single ‘Wall Of Glass’. Premiering as MistaJam’s Hottest Record, ‘Wall of Glass’ offers up a taster from his forthcoming debut solo album, As You Were. Following the split of the Gallagher-led band Beady Eye in 2014, Liam enlisted the help of super-producer, Greg Kurstin, (Adele, Sia, Beck) to deliver a hefty, blues-rock anthem, with plenty of Liam’s trademark swagger and attitude. With its frenzied harmonica flourishes and infectious blues-rock hook, ‘Wall Of Glass’ delivers on all fronts, and even manages to throw a few sneering barbs, possibly aimed at One Direction? “You were sold the one direction / And I believe the resurrection’s on, and you were wrong”. Upcoming dates for Liam include The Olympia Theatre in Dublin (June 10) and Benicassim Festival (July 13-16).

12) Justice – Randy (Boys Noize Remix)

French record label, Ed Banger Records, formed in 2003 and has built a stellar reputation over the years, becoming synonymous with the growth of electronic music today. Founded by former Daft Punk manager Pedro Winter (aka Busy P), the label are celebrating their 100th release – and what better way than with a compilation album entitled Ed Rec 100. One particular track that caught my attention was the Boys Noize remix of Justice’s ‘Randy’. The German electronic producer/DJ, Alexander Ridha, somehow manages to build on the already exceptional original, transforming the once electro-disco inspired track into a much darker, rip-roaring, techno banger. Other featured artists on the commemorative album include Mr. Oizo, Cassius and Riton. Ed Rec 100 is available now via Ed Banger Records. Upcoming dates for Boys Noize include Glastonbury (June 21-25) Pukkelpop (Aug 16-19) and XOYO in London (Aug 25).
