My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem
This memoir really helped me to further understand how far women have come, especially in the United States. I'm just barely beginning to realize how much I owe to my predecessors, women like Steinem. There is a lot in her life that I cannot relate with, but the person she tries to be is similar to the person I am striving to become. This book humanizes the feminist movement for me and would recommend it most to those who think "feminism" is a naughty word. Worthy of my Shelves.
Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella
I'm so glad this book as I were set up as I really enjoyed this! It's a fun, fast-paced read with a splash of romance. The concept of this book is great. Girl hits rock bottom, wishes her life would improve and wakes up with everything she could ever ask for and a teeny case of amnesia. I liked watching her put the pieces of the puzzle together to figure out how she got from point A to point C. This is up there as one of my favorite Kinsella novels! Worthy of my Shelves.
Strong Looks Better Naked by Khloe Kardashian
Khloe is my favorite Kardashian and they are kind of one of my guilty pleasures, even I was surprised by how much I liked this book. The writing style was conversational which made Khloe feel more relateable and the advice was solid and surprising. I felt inspired upon completion and really wish I could hang out with her in person. Worthy of my Shelves.
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
This book was hyped so much last year and I was really excited about the comparisons to Gone Girl. I wish they would have left Gone Girl out of it because in comparison the characters found in this novel are simple and predictable. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad read, but it's no Gone Girl. Borrow it.
Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
I was convinced after Mindy's last book that we were kindred spirits, but now I'm not so sure. This book was interesting and had its moments but as a whole it was kind of all over the place. Maybe this is one of those books where an audiobook was a bad idea? Or maybe Mindy and I are growing apart. Skip it.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Oh Outlander. You have been recommended to me by countless people over the last five years and I finally bit the bullet and spent so much time with you. I really loved this book for about the first 200ish pages. I loved the build-up of the relationship between Jamie and Claire. I was reminded of how exciting a relationship is in the early stages and I wanted that to last for awhile. Then they were forced into marriage and consummated the dang thing all over the place. I just like when it's all drawn out I hated the Randall story-line and how over-the-top that was. I needed a bath every time his name was mentioned and needed an even longer bath for the last 200ish pages. Overall, I think Outlander could have been shorter, but. . . I think I'm going to read the next book. Borrow it.
