Homosexuality is a developmental disorder, but so are lots of things, lots of mental illnesses, a lot of criminality, lefthandedness, on and on.
Developmental disorders are not obvious like birth defects, and most birth defects are caused by genes. Also it seems pretty bizarre to call criminality, anxiety disorders, mood disorders and left-handedness birth defects.
P.S. You may be interested to know that transsexualism and especially pedophilia are both obvious developmental disorders. Transsexualism, pedophilia, anxiety and mood disorders, and criminality are all correlated with homosexuality because they are all developmental disorders. When something goes wrong developmentally, there is not typically just a single manifestation.
