1. Do not rush anything. Take your time. Being able to take your time is a luxury only afforded to those who start early. If you can get going with the planning and beginnings of your move early, then you will be in a strong position to have everything set out and structured well, with enough time to complete the jobs that need to be sorted before the move day. In an ideal situation, you will have planned so far in advance, that your day to day workload is not much more than an hour or so, and this means that the move is not getting in the way of your regular life. Obviously, the days surrounding the actual move will be considerably less relaxed, but if everything has been set in order before this point, then there is no reason why you would have any issues with the move itself.
2. Pack well.Your planning should allow you to spread the packing thinly over a number of weeks, so that you don;t find yourself filling boxes up all night for a few days. If you can pack efficiently, then you should not have any issues, but getting everything in the wrong order will likely result in things being unpacked as they are needed by someone in the household. Put a list of that which is in the box on the box when you close it up, so that items can be located in emergencies, and ensure that you can lift each box. This means refraining from packing large boxes full of books or other heavy items, as these boxes can cause injury amongst the unsuspecting removers who are trying to lift them…
3. Be sensible about how you spend your money. Overspending can be disastrous, as you may not notice it happening at the time, but it will come back to bite you later, just as you are hoping to settle in to your new place. When you are planning, look in to how you could be reducing the amount that you spend on each aspect of the move, so that you know that you are well placed to get everything right, as well as for the right price. Go online if you think you could reduce the price of something, like boxes for instance, there will be loads of cheap or even free second hand boxes out there, just waiting to be taken off of people who don;t need them any more. Why spend fifty pounds on boxes that you could get for a lot less?
4. Relax. If you have planned well and been clever about your spending and packing, then nothing should go wrong. When you plan, ensure that you think about all of the issues that could come up, so that you are completely prepared for anything that may happen. If you are thinking like this, then you should be in great stead to avoid things in the first place, and if an issue were to rear it’s head, then you would be able to solve it easily. Many aspects of the move are avoidable, but one thing that you are going to have to deal with is stress. You may find that you get to a stage where you find it hard to sleep or get nervous about the move, as it has become such a worrisome subject! If this happens, then you need to take a step back from it all. Work out ways of calming down, like reading a book, or going for a walk. It’s not worth the blood pressure!
