After the War Between the States, a Confederate officer longs to heal the heart of Lizbeth Barclay—but first he’ll have to right the wrongs that were done to her.

Major Ethan Kelly has never been able to absolve himself of the guilt he feels for raiding one woman’s home just days before he was taken prisoner. He is struggling to get through each day until he once again crosses paths with Lizbeth Barclay—the very woman he can’t forget.

Life after the war is not much different for former Captain Devin Monroe. Until he meets Julianne VanFleet and knows that she is the woman he’s been waiting for. After calling on Julianne, Devin struggles to come to terms with the sacrifices she made to survive the war.

When Ethan and Devin discover that their former colonel Adam Bushnell is responsible for both Lizbeth’s and Julianne’s pain, they call on their former fellow soldiers to hunt him down. The men band together in an effort to earn the trust of the women they love and bring them the justice they deserve.

I’m a blogger with the Fiction Guild’s Elite Reader Program, and I am very fortunate to be able to receive a lot of books that my mother and I love to read. Today’s book is exactly one of those books by one of our favorite authors, Shelley Shepard Gray, and the title is Love Held Captive.

Love Held Captive by Shelley Shepard Gray

This book is the third and final book in the Lone Star series written by Shelley Shepard Gray.  I did not have the opportunity to read the first two, but I can assure you that Love Held Captive can be read as a stand alone book.

This historical fiction has been set in Texas couple of years after the Civil War.  The main characters in this story are Major Ethan Kelly, Captain Devin Monroe, Julianne Van Fleet and Elizabeth Barclay.   A Confederate Officer Major Ethan Kelly and Captain Devon Monroe who served alongside of him shares a friendship that began  in the Civil War and grew as they fought to survive their stay in the Johnson’s Island POW camp in Ohio.   In this story there are a lot of flash back to the time they were in the POW camp.  Now both men are trying to put their past behind them.

Lizbeth Barclay and Julianne VanFleet  both are survivors of the war and had suffered by those who were in command.  Lizbeth’s home had been raided until she had nothing, was raped and had her face sliced open by Colonel Adam Bushnell.  Julianne’s pain was due to her sacrifices she made in order to take care of her sick grandmother both were starving and had been mistreated by Colonel Adam Bushnell.

This is the story of the romances of Lizbeth and Major Ethan Kelly and Julianne and Captain Devon Monroe.  Calling on their friends from their war days Major Ethan Kelly and Captain Devon Monroe go to take care of Adam Bushnell.

Love Held Captive by Shelley Shepard Gray

I really enjoyed reading this book and I think anyone who enjoys reading historical fiction, romance and suspense will enjoy it also.  Ms. Gray does an excellent job of bringing the characters alive and you feel their happiness and their pains.
