Lil Allen recently revealed the video for her new single, Air Balloon. We'll be honest, when we heard the audio only version, we weren't all that impressed, but now that we've seen the utterly bizarre video that matches it, although we're still not completely sold, we get it that little bit more. Lily has managed a catchy little track, despite the words being utterly ludicrous ... so in that, we can only respect her.
However, if we look at this in the grand scheme of things that Lily has done recently, it just doesn't compare. She launched back into fame by being featured in John Lewis' christmas advert; but topped that with her industry-pressuring stance in Hard Out Here - something which we couldn't stop raving about ... so with this, where the music isn't as fun, nor the lyrics as well thought and put together ... we don't really see where Lily is trying to go.
The likenesses throughout this to MIA are uncanny. There are lots of moments where you simply wouldn't know the difference, and given that we have lost a lot of time for MIA, it's no real wonder that we don't have all that much time for this. We think it's the fact that Lily has come back with two absolute killers, and then flaunted this across as if it's on par ... but something about it all just doesn't quite click.
We're sure that Courtney Love will have a few select words for the singer whom has used Kurt Cobain's name in the track ... although, there shouldn't be any real issue, as the words when put together are absolutely nonsensical. We feel that Lily may have tried a tad too hard in this one to come up with something outrageous, brash, 'trippy', and altogether, cool ... but unfortunately, she comes across as a bit embarrassing mom - here's hoping the next is only better!
