The third week in August was Moon Planting time for plants grown for their Roots, Perennials and is also a good time to take cuttings.

August 16th
Seeds sown into cell punnets using a mix of rainwater soaked coir without additives and sieved potting mix and kept in Green House:
Beetroot Beta vulgaris - Cylindra and Golden Detroit

Seeds sown in cell punnets using a mix of coir without additives and sieved potting mix and kept in greenhouse:

Seeds sown in small pots/loorolls using a mix of coir without additives and potting mix and kept in greenhouse:

Lavender Lavender vera True English
Lovage Levisticum officinale
Soapwort Saponaria officinalis
Sweet Pea Everlasting (Perennial) Lathyrus latifolius - Latifolius Pink in loorolls

August 17th
Sown directly into beds that had been cleared of all weeds and mulch and watered
Carrots Chantenay Red Cored Daucus carota, direct into bed 11
Parsnips Guernsey Pastinaca sativa direct into bed 13
Radish Raphanus sativus - Fire Candle, Hailstone and Pink Lady Slipper direct into both beds

Planted into wicking pots using spent potting mix enriched with blood and bone and rock dust with coir that had been soaked in rainwater with seasol (seaweed extract) and charlie carp (fish emulsion) added:
Pre-chitted Potatoes Solanum tuberosum Kennebec.

Last Weeks of August

Tagastate seedlings and Spring Onion ends growing away.


The last week of August each morning brought a frost and no rain fell. It was a No Planting week on the Moon Planting Calendar so time was mainly spent weeding, pruning and path shaping.
