Aberdeen lies in the southern portion of Hong Kong Island, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Central, Wan Chai, and Causeway Bay. Filipino tourists may probably have heard of it because of Ocean Park Hong Kong and Jumbo Floating Restaurant, which are its famous attractions. L’Hotel Island South is located in Aberdeen in Hong Kong Island, a fishing village renowned for its harbor, seafood restaurants, fish market, and temples. Plenty of tourists, however, stay at the hotel because of its close proximity to Ocean Park Hong Kong, to which the hotel provides complimentary shuttle services to all day. This is aside from the free transportation it provides its guests to and from the Airport Express Hong Kong Station at IFC Mall in Central.
The property, known as the territory’s “first geopark hotel,” is set on a yin and yang of city and nature. It owes its design inspiration of nature and the ocean from its proximity to bodies of water and expanses of greenery, as well as Aberdeen’s heritage as a former fishing town. As such, its interiors are set in hues of blue, complemented by exquisite contemporary design pieces.
As it interestingly sits on the fringes of a hill, the hotel took advantage of the topography and offered its guests an unrivaled view of nature. I was fortunate to have been accommodated in a Premium Hill View room, which let me rest and wake up to a sense of serenity.
The well-appointed room is sized 30 square meters, generous by Hong Kong standards, and it’s provisioned with the necessary comforts: an cozy king-sized bed, a small sitting area, an executive desk, a minibar with coffee and tea making facility, an LED TV, and a closet with safe. The bathroom, meanwhile, is equipped with a tub and supplied with towels and fragrant amenities.
Breakfast is served at LIS Café, which offers a buffet of Western and Chinese options. One night, I was also able to try out its seafood dinner buffet, which is famous among locals. Crabs, prawns, clams, and other sea critters were in abundance, and they were accompanied by a slew of meats, fish, and other tasty Chinese fare as well.
In all, the gorgeous L’Hotel Island South offers an excellent proposition: luxurious rooms with a splendid view, a superior seafood buffet, and friendly service at a still-affordable price. It’s great as a base for exploring not only Ocean Park Hong Kong but Aberdeen as well.
