Killing Them Softly: Teaser

Movie: Killing Them Softly

Director: Andrew Dominik

Release Date: October 19, 2012

Fans of Brad Pitt and mobster movies alike are awaiting the release of Killing Them Softly in September.  The movie was known at one point as Cogan’s Trade, but the title was changed prior to the film being screened at the Cannes Film Festival.  For those looking for a mob film with realism, this very well could be your film.

Pitt plays the part of Cogan, a hitman who knocks off his targets from a distance because he can’t stand to hear them beg for their life, hence his term of killing them softly.  Cogan is called in to clean up a mess that two inexperienced hitmen made when they failed to kill a gangster named Markie, played by Ray Liotta.  Markie supposedly robbed another gangster, and while there is no proof of this fact, Markie is still targeted to die.

There’s just one problem with this whole scenario.  Cogan knows Markie and does not want to pull off the job. Instead, he hires his friend Mickey to do the job. Mickey, played by James Gandolfini, royally botches the job and everything becomes one bloody mess for everyone involved.

Killing Them Softly looks to be in the same vein as American Gangster where the mob is portrayed in all their brutal glory.  In addition, you will get to see a mob that isn’t as well oiled a machine as many movies try to portray them to be.  You will see middle management snafu’s and guys that get in way over their head and end up paying dearly for it.

The film is being distributed by the Weinstein Company and odds are that the films cast will garner a lot of attention from critics and mob movie fans.  Killing them Softly will be released September 21st in both the United States and Canada.
