Kashmir, One of the Prime Tourist Destinations in India Kashmir is located in north India and it is popularly known as the ‘Paradise on Earth’. The sorrowful part is that it is not very well known among the tourists across the world because of the political controversies and terrorist activities connected with this place. But since the last few years, the valley has offered peaceful circumstances and its popularity is gradually regaining its rightful recognition. Nestled among the laps of the snow clad mountains, the valley is located in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. The beauty of Kashmir poses as an attraction for all the varied ages of people. Even the cultivators of soil love this place, because of its fertility, abundance of water, cultivation of natural products from grains to fruits. As for the cattlemen, the region offers extended pasturage and broad meadows. 

The adventure seekers can enjoy variety of adventure sports along its landscapes. Indeed the place offers something for people from every profession of the world, like the artists, botanist, geologist or even archaeologist.  Kashmir also offers some of the tourist spots which are rated among the best spots across the world. Here is a list of some of the attractive spots of the valley- Srinagar Srinagar is without doubt, the most romantic and pristine place in Kashmir. Ideally located in the center of Kashmir valley, the place is regarded as the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The place is surrounded by exotic lakes like Dal, Nagin and Anchar, whose crystal clear waters reflecting the rays of the sun, is a sight to be beheld. A cruise on the vibrant houseboats sailing across the charming Dal Lake with towering Himalayan snow clad mountains at the background makes Srinagar a renowned destination among the tourists. Some of the must visit places in Srinagar is the Mughal Gardens, Dal Lake, Shankaracharya temple and a rejuvenating ride on the Shikaras. You can also shop for famous Pashmina shawls and Kashmiri handicrafts. Skiing, trekking, white water rafting, paragliding, camping and kayaking are some of the adventure sports that this exotic city of Srinagar offers. Gulmarg Gulmarg is all about enjoying the picturesque views, visiting the attractive lake or paying homage to the famous shrine of a Muslim saint (Baba Reshi Shrine). The place also offers a cable car ride take tour you to Kongdori, along which you will get to enjoy the glorious sights of the meadow from the top. Gulmarg also holds as one of the best skiing destinations in India. Khilanmarg is the spot for skiing in winter and also perfect place to views of the Kashmir valley and the range from Khilanmarg. The Alpathar Lake, which lies at a distance of 13 km from Gulmarg, is a magnificent alpine lake that remains frozen until late June. Adventure seekers can take a one day trek to Alpathar Lake across the Apharwat peak. Other tourist destinations include, golf courses, Tangmarg, Gondola Lift etc. Pahalgam Located in the western part of Jammu and Kashmir, Pahalgam is a popular place for tourists because of its cool climate and charming river Ladder flowing at a distance. One of its attractive feature is the 9 hole golf course open for tourists now being stretched into a 18 hole. Some of the tourist attractions of this place are Chandanwari - is popular for its snow bridge, Baisaran - it offers scenic views of the snow clad mountains, also that, renowned Tulian Lake is at a distance of 11 km from Pahalgam and picturesque Sheshnag Lake. Pahalgam also holds as the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra, one of the holy pilgrimages of Hindus. Weather of Kashmir Compared to the other parts of India, Kashmir valley enjoys a moderate climate but weather conditions are unpredictable at this place.  Generally the valley is cool during the spring and the autumn seasons, pleasant during the summers and chilly during the winters. Due to its large area the weather condition varies from place to place due to its geographic location. The weather conditions of the hilly areas of the valley are much cooler than the parts located at the lower altitudes.
