Kadugu Chutney(mustard Seeds Chutney)

We all know the importance of mustard seeds in our kitchen.I bet there a very very few recipes that goes without 'temper mustard seeds'. This well explains the importance of mustard seeds.In my today's post the humble but indispensable mustard is the star ingredient.This is my mom's recipe and it is so much famous in our family and friends circle.With very few ingredients and a simple procedure it is hard to believe such a tasty dish can be made.This goes very well spongy idlies and dosas. This chutney is surely a keeper.
Kadugu chutney(mustard seeds chutney)
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon black mustard seeds
1 large onion chopped fine
1 tablespoon urad dal
3 dried chillies
1 small ball of tamrind
Oil to saute
Salt
Curry leaves(optional)
Method:
Heat oil in a kadai,fry all the ingredients (mustard through tamrind) separately and remove to a plate.Grind along with salt once cooled.Temper with curry leaves if needed.

Time:20 minutes
Serves:4

Notes:
1.This is a very spicy one,small amount goes long way
2.This can also be used as spread for toasts on bread,pav etc
3.Mix 2 teaspoons of this chutney with cooled rice and make instant masala rice.
4.If you feel the above recipe is very spicy to han.dle,add a small tomato and a piece of jaggery.
5.Seame oil brings out the traditional taste
