June 30, 2015 – Tuesday’s Training Report

By Debi Lantzer @debiL1611

I have an adorable grandson who has erased the unnecessary data that came with his Nabi (kid's tablet) so he can stick to watching strictly product reviews on YouTube. Of course, they aren't grandma Debi's "boring stuff" reviews, but instead, they are mostly reviews on Superhero toys. He used used to watch more Disney toy videos, but now that he's growing up and is a big-boy 4, he mostly watches Imaginex toy product reviews.

So..... in my best YouTube voice, I say to all of you, "Hey guys, this is Debi from 2014 and Beyond and today we are going to talk about...... gulp.......training." Yes, that's what I'm going to talk about. I almost didn't post today's report due to my inconsistency this past week, but on Sunday I felt redeemed and on track, so I'll just move forward.

I just finished week #8 of the Hal Higdon's "Novice Supreme" 30 Week Full Marathon Training Plan. While I didn't make every run on the schedule, I did run the weekend long run, which still amazes me! I will keep moving forward and doing my best. I will never be perfect and I do realize that. My new motto is "Be Stronger Than Your Excuses" and I'm working hard to live by that motto.

June 30, 2015 – Tuesday’s Training Report

When I first started thinking about the "why I didn't run this week" story, I was trying to think of the reasons why I didn't meet all of the scheduled runs and I quickly realized they would just be excuses. I ran, and that is awesome! BAM!

So here are the results of Week #8:

TRAINING:

Monday - Rest

Tuesday - FAIL

Wednesday - FAIL

Thursday - Ran 3 miles on the home treadmill (14:11 / 13:50 / 14:17)

Friday - Rest

Saturday - 2 hr. walk 4.1 miles (8,906 steps)

Sunday - Ran 5 miles! That's right! I did it! (13:58 / 14:20 / 14:12 / 14:30 / 14:32)

I switched Saturday and Sunday's scheduled events again because I knew I had obligations that would have me skipping that long run if I didn't switch the days. I woke up on Sunday - late here in Florida where it is 95 degrees and 99% humidity by 8am each day. It was 7:30 a.m. and I knew there was no way I was headed outside. I was thinking maybe I could just start fresh the following week and skip this run entirely, but I knew I'd feel so guilty I wouldn't be able to live with myself, so I geared up and got onto the treadmill.

Miles 1 and 2 were easy peasy and then suddenly at 3, I let my mind convince me maybe I didn't need to keep running so I sped up! LOL! When I checked the stats later, I realized the third mile was faster than the second even though I thought I did pretty well on the second. I did slow down for miles four and five, but I got them done and I feel pretty awesome about that!

WEIGHT/EATING: Once again, I didn't lose any weight, and I didn't weigh in so I'm not sure if I gained either. I was so-so with my food plan too, I'm not even going to try and pretend it was as awesome as that 5 mile run! I will make the commitment right now to try and get a better handle on this area of my training next week and will report on my success.

GOALS FOR NEXT WEEK: Next week is Week 9 of Hal Higdon's "Novice Supreme" 30 Week Full Marathon Training Plan. This week my schedule is jam packed full of stuff. I'll save the details for next week's post but I'll definitely push forward and do my best.

I also will do my best to stay on track with my eating, and try (again ) to drink more water. It's so hot, I suspect I'll be indoors on the treadmill until September, but who knows. I have a local 5K Saturday and it's outside, so I will get there sooner than later:)
