London based producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jack Garratt, unveiled his new single Surprise Yourself. The single is taken from his forthcoming debut album Phase and serves as the follow up to previous singles Worry, Weathered, Chemical, Breathe Life, The Love You’re Given and the recent Fire. Speaking with Annie Mac, Garratt commented:
“Surprise is one of my oldest songs. It’s so strange cause it’s gone through so many alterations. It’s come with me on the last 3-4 years of my career.”
Showcasing his never-ending talents with his multi-layered instrumentation and captivating falsetto vocals, Surprise gains momentum as it builds to a euphoric, wordless chorus.
“This record is me being the most honest that I can be, from the truest place that I know, which is the music that I make. I’ve said more on this record than I can possibly ever say with words. And as you know, I talk a lot!”
Having kicked off the year winning both the coveted Brits Critics Choice Award and topping BBC’s Sound of 2016, Garratt continues to deliver refreshing and unique music.
“I don’t think I’ve hit the nail on the head completely and I hope I never will – because then what am I going to do tomorrow? This is closest I’ve come yet, I think. There’s been no wasted notes and I’m eternally proud of the music and the effort gone into this record.”
Upcoming performances for Jack Garratt include The Academy in Dublin (Mar 30) , O2 Academy Brixton (April 15), Wild Life Festival (June 11012) and Lovebox (July 15-16). In the meantime, check out his epic cover of Craig David’s 7 Days for Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
