. . . as I drove by.
Fortunately, I was at a red light.
And fortunately my camera was on the seat beside me.
I'm not sure why I loved seeing this flashy red car so much.
Perhaps because in a story I wrote a while back, a young woman sees a convertible in a used car lot as she is passing and her decision to buy the car changes her life.
I'm happy with my life so I didn't stop. But perhaps, in some alternate reality, I did. Perhaps I had no obligations, no family, no pets -- just a little bit of savings.
Perhaps I bought the red car and set out on a cross country- adventure. . . to see places I've never seen.
I think I'd start by heading for The Great River Road and follow the Mississippi from Minnesota to Louisiana . . .
If I were going . . . where should I go? I wouldn't want interstate highways and big tourist attractions. I'd want small towns and unsung oddities, places that haven't quite caught up to modern times.
It's my alternative reality so the car runs perfectly and people everywhere are friendly.
