Is Lipozine a “miracle” Weight Loss Supplement?

By Pamela Brown

Lipozene Diet Pills - Maximum Strength Fat Loss Formula - 1500mg , 30 CapsulesHave you been wondering about the claims made about Lipozene like I have?  As I watched yet another commercial last night, I decided to visit the site and see what I could learn.  So, here goes…

What does Lipozene do?

According to the creators of Lipozene, the pill creates a dietary fiber gel in your stomach that makes you feel full so you are able to eat less without feeling hungry.  The active ingredient in Lipozene is a soluble fiber called glucomanan (GM), which is used to treat constipation, obesity, cholesterol issues, and diabetes.  This fiber type is thought to be effective for body fat loss.

Possible Side Effects

Although on the site, it states that no side effects have been found, research that is found on the Clinical Trials page of the website states the following:

Mild effects include loose stools, diarrhea, flatulence (gas), and abdominal discomfort or cramping.

Major side effects include choking.  A warning has been issued by the FDA for this very thing, possible choking deaths.  How is this so?  Water can cause the tablets to swell before they reach your stomach, therefore getting stuck in your esophagus and restricting airflow.  It is suggested that there is a safety mechanism of some sort on fiber pills-the outer shell shields the fiber from water before it reaches the stomach.

But still, the risk is there.

GM jelly candies have been banned from the United States, Europe, and Australia due to the fact that they have been a cause of several choking deaths around the world.

Other Precautions

GM pills shouldn’t be taken with:

  • medications and other supplements that lowers blood sugar

And they can affect the absorption of any oral medications that you take, so if you still choose to use Lipozene, please consult your doctor.

Advantages and Limitations

Some advantages of Lipozene is that:

  • it uses a natural plant source, fiber
  • relatively good tolerability and low rate of side effects
  • it is considered an acceptable alternative for people that don’t want to increase fiber-rich food intake

Some limitations include the following:

  • limited data suggests that GM is safe and effective in promoting modest weight loss (2005)
  • you miss out on lots of other essential nutrients that you get in fiber rich foods that are essential for vitality, health, and happiness
  • you can easily take too much fiber initially, which can cause abdominal upset and cramping
  • a pill cannot control eating impulses as a result from emotional eating or stress eating; and it cannot take the place of control.  How many people keep eating, even after they notice they are full?

My Thoughts

I’m not saying Lipozene isn’t effective-it does contain fiber which increases the feeling of fullness.  I do feel that there are a lot of other factors that is involved with appetite control and weight loss.  So, I don’t consider it a weight loss cure or anything.  Besides, what else can do the same thing Lipozene does, and is much closer to you?

Fiber-Rich Food!!!

Really, what’s the difference?  I would think a pill tastes even more bland than most fiber-rich foods.  However, you can learn to make these foods tasty and healthy at the same time!

It’s harder to do that with a pill.  So what are some fiber-rich foods you can eat?

  • Legumes (seeds covered by a pod or shell) such as beans, lentils, and peanuts
  • Whole grain oatmeal
  • Vegetables (minus corn)

AND DRINK WITH PLENTY OF WATER!!!!  Be careful not to eat too much too fast, or you can experience cramping and discomfort…

You will get many more essential nutrients that you won’t get in a typical supplement.

And money-wise, you may as well put what you would spend on weight loss cures on food, and learn how to eat and enjoy food.  It’ll be better for you in the long-term.

I hope this post is informative, and if you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the form below!!!
