This is a great update on the proceeding’s from Milan fashion week in the New York Times. I have really started to notice the cultural and political influences in designer’s collections such as the Les Miserable’s film, and a 1980′s punk DIY blitz club extravaganza. Also I have started to recognize the influence of 1920′s feminism and flapper movement, the idea of women pushing boundaries.
However, the one thing that got me thinking about this article is that Cathy Horyn refers to Prada’s expression and collection ‘like the work of an artist’. Now Prada has been known to deny that Fashion and Art are the same, believing that if you call yourself an artists, you might as well be second rate. But the whole idea that fashion could be art has been on my mind recently. The idea that Topshop showed in the TATE this London Fashion Week would contend against Prada’s arguments. I think I will dwell on this a little while longer. As for now, I hope you enjoy the link to the article.
