I subscribed to MyGlam, now known as Ipsy, shortly after they started the service. It only took about one month to disappoint me so I cancelled after only a few bags. I decided to give them another chance when they revamped the service and changed the name to Ipsy.
Ipsy, like BirchBox, is a monthly subscription service that provides 4-5 sample or full-size products from various brands for $10 each month. They have added a beauty "quiz" in October to better customize products to your profile. You may cancel at any time, though you cannot really skip a month. If you are interested in subscribing, you can sign up at ipsy.com.
Though I never got around to posting last month's bag, it was pretty good. This is my second bag and it is even better! I am quite happy with the offerings! If you wanna see what November has to offer, keep reading....
This month's bag was just a plain, stain, tear and liquid-resistant brown. Nothing exciting, but not outlandish either!
First out of the bag was a mini Moxie lip gloss in "Dare Devil" from Bare Minerals. Very cute sample and a nice, shimmery deep berry shade for Fall. It is 2.25ml / 0.07 fl oz.
Bare Minerals does not test on animals, nor do they work with manufacturers that conduct animal testing. They have been bought by Shisedo which is a company that does test on animals, but I am not going to hold the parent company's sins against Bare Minerals as they have always been against animal testing.
Next out was a sample of Eyebrow Defining Gel from Chella. It is just a clear brow gel and is 3.5ml / 0.12 fl oz. I know nothing about this company and have emailed them about their animal testing policies.
Next is the Balm's Meet Matt(e) matte eye shadow in "Matt Batali". The Balm has some really cool packaging and equally cute and fitting names. As far as I know, the Balm also does not test on animals. Also, raw material suppliers have certified that they have not tested on animals since 1990. This sample is 0.9g / 0.03oz. Such a cute little box with a decent size shadow inside. It is a deep matte chocolate brown. Very nice and quite versatile.
The next product is a full size nail polish from Nailtini in the color "Millionaire". It is a standard 15ml / 0.5 fl oz bottle! Never heard of the brand, but I checked out their website and they have a variety of products, not just nail polish, that can be ordered "straight" or "mixed" - such a fun idea! The box was nice enough....
Then I opened it and the polish is stunning!!! It is mostly gold bar glitter with flashes of blue and green holographic bar glitter. It sparkles like there's no tomorrow! I instantly thought of New Year's Eye. The picture really doesn't do the gold justice; it's a true sparkly bright gold. Really excited to use this!
Finally, there was a full-size Eye Pencil in "Chocolate" from Starlet Cosmetics (1.5g). Never heard of this company either and I have contacted them about their animal testing policies. The pencil does contain beeswax and lanolin so it's not vegan. It looks like a fairly standard needs-a-sharpener pencil. I swatched it on my hand and it felt kind of waxy. It didn't seem very creamy or long wearing, but the color is a nice basic brown.
Overall, I am very happy with this bag. Some people received a mini Benefit "They're Real" mascara instead of the Chella Eyebrow Gel. I am actually glad to have the brow gel because, Benefit entering the Chinese market aside, I have tried the "They're Real" mascara and I'm not a huge fan. It works great for lengthening and defining lashes, but I prefer volumizing mascaras since I have long but thin lashes. Well done Ipsy and good riddance MyGlam! :)
