Happy Intuitive Eating day!
Lately, intuitive eating has been a little bit of a challenge. With my intestines screaming bloody murder at me every other day it’s been hard to follow the most basic rule: eat what you want! Normally I’m afraid to eat most things that aren’t on my “safe food list” which makes me feel deprived, which then makes me eat a lot more of the things I don’t actually want because it’s not satisfying my craving.
All that aside I’m trying all this week to remember 1 simple little thing…
no food (or fitness) rule is black and white
wheew… I said it.
Breakfast
In a way, I’m sort of starting a whole new way of eating. Could I have done this last December, before reading the Intuitive Eating book… no! definitely not. But can I do it now after 5 months of mental food healing?? yes! I really think I can.
That makes me feel awesome because it means I was doing everything RIGHT for those long, and sometimes frustrating months.

What did I eat? 2 eggs fried in extra virgin olive oil (1 of my 2 daily servings of healthy fats
)I also had my mug of hot magic lemon water right after getting up.
While writing this post I’m sipping my first of 3 servings of green tea. Sweetened with stevia of course.

In all honesty, I am following a diet that I read about. It’s called the 17 Day Diet and it’s a diet that works in 3 phases. In the first phase I’m supposed to
- cut out all refined sugars and carbs that don’t come from veggies.
- I’m supposed to get 3 servings of green tea a day.
- 2 servings of probiotics or probiotic food a day.
- drink the hot magic lemon water in the morning.
- eat 2 servings of healthy fat
- get 2 servings of lower sugar fruits a day
- eat lean protein (mainly from fish or poultry)
- eat loads of veggies
In the second phase I follow the guidelines above except
- I add in healthy carbs like more fruits and legumes, whole grain, brown rice, etc…
- I focus on portioning out the amount of meat I eat
- I can eat more fruits
And finally in the third/fourth phase nothing is off limits and it teaches principles on how to adapt this way of eating into regular life.
I liked that the book focused so much on digestive health. And it talked a lot about how detoxing off all the sugar and foods that break down into sugar in the body can really revamp your digestive system.
I don’t like how restrictive the diet is. I don’t think omitting carbs from my body is a good choice. So I’m following the diet loosely. I am cutting out a lot of carbs from my diet for the next few weeks. I’m not going to be eating any white bread or white pasta. But if I really want a sandwich, I’ll have it on whole grain bread. If I go to Mexican food (which we all know I will) I’ll have the black beans and skip the tortilla chips. No food or fitness rule has to be black and white!
My main goal is to get the healthy eating habits but not the weight loss (which if I followed it to a T, I’d lose like 15 pounds in the first 2 phases. That’s not for me.
Tell me about you!! I want to know…
