With so much choice on the market, it can be a hard task to decide what style to go for in interior design.
When we buy a piece of furniture online there are always a number of factors to take into account.
What’s the budget?
What size is the space it has to go into?
How will it look alongside existing furniture?
What style?
Colour?
What use will it have?
Contemporary furniture provides a range of possibilities to suit all these factors, and more. It may seem like a cliché, but there really is something for all tastes and budgets if you pick an item from a contemporary range.
While furnishing and decorating your home entirely from scratch offers the possibility of imposing your own style, this is a rare position to be in. Usually we have to add the piece to what we already have. This doesn’t mean that you have to stick to the same style. One of the best ways to personalise your space, rather than have it look as though you created a home-staging scene from one of the mainstream retailers, is to mix it up.
A contemporary piece can often marry well in a mix of styles. Add a modern touch to a traditional setting. Traditional and classic furniture ranges tend to be heavy and solid with dark woods and elaborate carvings. Handsome though it may be, it can often be cumbersome, and dominate the space. An armchair, sofa, or sideboard in a contemporary design gives a fresh look, at the same time as presenting a note of sophistication.
A streamlined sofa and glass low table, offset with a Victorian landscape painting in a gilt carved frame on the wall introduces sleek lines and high functionality to create an uncluttered look. Modular seating combined with modular shelving can perfectly enhance grandma’s cherry wood chaise longue. Or add a traditional piece to a contemporary environment. Introduce a modern oak cabinet to a bedroom featuring a dark wood four poster bed and vintage armchair, to create a note of originality and make the space yours.
