Verden an der Aller
Charming town, about 30 kilometers from Bremen:
Stop here for a drink in one of the many pubs and visit the impressive Dom, the Lutheran cathedral, built between the 12th and the 15th century. It’s easy to find it, given its oversized, spectacular roof. And last but not least, have a stroll in the cobbled streets…
Zoo am Meer
Literally, zoo at the sea. Head over to Bremerhaven:
This city is – and has always been – one of Germany’s most important trade ports. If you are into historical buildings, Bremerhaven has little to offer in comparison with for example Bremen. The harbor is the place to be for entertainment, with its Maritime Musuem a.o. and the Zoo am Meer. This small zoo features mainly arctic animals and has almost no bars or fences. What separates you from the animal is glass; moreover, you can see the marine animals above and below the water level.
The main stars are the polar bears, Valeska and her baby, Lale:
This is a fun and interesting place for children and adults!
Lars and I spent half a day here, taking dozens of pictures. You soon will find all the other pictures on Flickr. By the way, the entrance fee is € 7.50 for adults, a more than reasonable price.
Ottendorf
In the afternoon, we stumbled upon this place, where the Elbe and the North Sea meet. You will find Ottendorf to the northeast of Bremerhaven.
Stade
End your day in the picturesque town of Stade:
The old harbor, with its many historical buildings, pubs and restaurants is a must-see.
