When you’re in a new relationship or a newlywed, you can’t take keep hands off each other. Everything is fresh and the nookie is hot and frequent. You just don’t want those feelings to ever end.

When the hubs and I first got together (in 1992) there were constant fireworks going off in the bedroom and I proclaimed that it would always be that way. Well, it did go on for a long time but then life happened.

Now it’s like, if he initiates, I’m in but if he doesn’t, no hard feelings babe. And if I initiate and he says “not tonight”, I’m not going to get bent out of shape. I’ll just turn around and catch up on much needed sleep.

And that’s pretty much the norm, because after years of togetherness, raising a family and working 12-hour shifts, you might notice the bow chicka wow wow goes from overdrive to almost nonexistent.

And that could lead to all kinds of crazy thoughts. You might think your sweetie doesn’t find you attractive or worse, that he or she is having an affair. Oh yeah, it can go there.

How To Improve Your Sex Life

Before you push the panic button, you should do some research and find out what could cause men and women to lose their sex drive.

Connecting with your sweetie should be on every level, emotionally and physically. I only knew about oysters and chocolate. Looks like I’m going to be stocking up on celery, bananas, eggs, avocados and broccoli!

While there are common factors, here are other reasons why men and women lose their sex drive.

For women it could be:

  • The birth of a baby
  • Caring for a family member
  • Comparisons to body images in the media
  • Age

For men it could be:

  • Anxiety about performance
  • Medical conditions such as high blood pressure
  • Birth of a baby
  • The quality of their relationship with their spouse or significant other

Ways To Improve Your Sex Life

There are other things you can do to avoid bedroom boredom and put the spice back in your marriage. You can introduce sex toys or practice yoga for better sex positions.

But the key in any relationship is communication. If you’ve noticed your sex life is not what is used to be talk with your sweetie, he or she might have the same concerns and sharing your feelings will be a great start to improving our sex life.
